visual poetry
I have always loved Billy Collins. Perhaps for extra credit I should do something like this, not animated though, I do not have those skills

SnagFilms Film Widget
This is some of the funiest stuff that I have ever seen, who in there right mind would take the time to train a cat? As a side note, snagfilm.net may be a place for all of us in this class to post our films

DIFF
So last night I went to the Abbey at six and saw "AN UNLIKELY WEAPON". This documentary was shot using primarily available light which worked in almost all of the scenes, but some of the interview shots looked a little too red. Either that or the person being interviewed suffered front he worst case of Rosacea that I have ever seen. The editing was smooth, I only noticed one cut that seemed off. I loved the close ups of Mr. Adams walking down the street and I wonder, were they shooting with one of those steady cam things? The integration of the works of the artist were well spaced. The movie flowed well, and was emotionally moving. I was unprepared for the actual video footage of the assassination photo, and the moments following the iconic photograph are gut wrenching. I got a great idea of who the subject was, and I think I would have liked to have known him. At one point in the film, we see this incredible mass of papers, negatives and the like, and the woman working there says something to the effect that they look at it and close the door, because they don't know where to begin. That moment made me want to go and help them archive, I can see myself doing it! I was going to see "COURTING CONDI" but I was too tired (sorry Carrie). I would like to see more films but I don't think that I am going to be able to. On a side note, I ran into a lady that I know and she apparently has alot to do with the film festival in Florence, Italy and the festival in Cairo, Egypt. She asked me if I would be interested in presenting a workshop or participating on a panel discussion in either country. I was a little floored and told her that I wasn't really a filmmaker, her response was, "Aren't you an actress?" So that could be an extremely interesting opportunity, we will see what happens.

an honest politician
This is a powerful piece of video. I am so glad that at least one man has the guts to really hold true to the convictions that REALLY matter. Blessed be.

For all of you fans of stop-motion animation, this is the bomb! and I SO do not have the patience to even consider the amount of time that it took

50 people
I have alot to say about this video, it may take more than one post. I may need to let it percolate.
For now, the concept is so fabulous that I wish I had done it myself. I guess if I came up with my own question it would be plagarism?
Lets begin at the beginning. The sound of the guy with the mike, to me this is completely intentional as is the accidental shot of the mike a little later. The rapid shifting rack focus is occasionally distracting as is the music. I think the level of the music is a scosh too loud. I think that maybe there could be lass camera movement, panning etc. and the obvious focussing and refocussing is also a little distracting. All that aside, I found this film to have a pathos that I found very affecting, not in a bad way. I think that its amazing that one can get so many different people to be so honest in front of a total stranger with a camera. As far as the editing is concerened, I think it was spectacular, in some spots it even matched the rhythm of the music. I also really enjoyed the smooth title work at the end of this film.

new day
It's a new day
many thanks to Stacey for turning me on to this. Today was a day that I have been thinking about and praying for for my entire conscious life. My paternal grandparents are not here to see this, but I know that they are as full of joy, hope and pride as I am. I remember marching for the civil rights movement as a small child. I rememeber my grandpa, the first African American man to become a General as well as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Armed forces, being asked b a Chicago Ppolice officer if he could read. I remember the extrordinary grace of my gradpa as he took the name and badge number of the officer. I remember my grandma telling stories of how the KKK would come to her house when she was a child, how she used to throw tacks along the ground in front of her house thinking that they would protect her family. I remember the day my brother and I first realized that we were considered different than the other children we went to school with. I remember being spat upon in school, I remember a boss of mine throwing a fit when I sat my dad and my aunt at a window table in the restaurant, my boss didn't want those kind in the window of his establsihment. I gave myself a good laugh while watching the inauguration, how ironic that I was on my hands and knees scrubbing a bathroom floor at the Strater Hotel, just as the world was becoming a new, more open, more wonderful place to be!

foggy drive
What is it about fog that always adds so much atmosphere? Other than the obvious, you know, the sense of mystery, of not knowing?
glenn gould
Glenn Gould is a crazy person who can play a piano like no one else on the planet with the exception of perhaps Chopin, who is dead.
color theory
hey hey, are you okay? i've got to get more video up! How about this one, eerie feeling with the soundtrack, the images remind me of the old time psychedelic stuff from the Fillmore West in San Fran. when I was a small child. For some reason I tend to like things that are out of focus. Hmmm, that could mean something deep about my inner self. Or not.
